Since 1942, the American Women’s Club (AWC) has upheld American traditions and values and provides philanthropic services to their adopted community of Curacao. This year, the AWC is proud to recognize and provide financial support to several of the charitable organizations that make a real difference in Curaçao every day.
The organizations recognized by AWC encourage arts and education, provide shelter for animals, support people with autism, provide safe places for children, promote public health, preserve the flora and fauna of Curaçao, and provide services to those most in need. Through the commitment and hard work of its members and the generosity of their sponsors, the AWC has once again been able to “give back” in a small way to the island.
On the morning of June 8, representatives of these charities met with AWC members at the United States Consulate General to receive their donations and make brief presentations about their organizations. U.S. Consul General Margaret Hawthorne hosted the memorable gathering at the Roosevelt House.
This year, the donations went to the following deserving organizations:
• Stichting Casa Cuna Villa Maria
• Curaçao Animal Rights Foundation (CARF)
• Stichting Dierenbescherming SDBC (Animal Shelter)
• Stichting Dierenhulp Curaçao
• Patientenvereniging Prinses Wilhelminafonds
• St. Vincent de Paul
• Amigunan di Cristo
The AWC and the U.S. Consulate General sincerely thank all of the organizations for their exemplary dedication to the local community.
